Acting Principal Shelly Baker

Dear Students, Families, and Community Members, It is my pleasure to welcome you to Judge Lionel C. Collins Elementary School. At Collins, we believe that all students will learn and reach their full academic potential through engaged learning. 

My name is Shelly Baker and it is a joy and privilege to be serving as the Acting Principal of our wonderful elementary school. This will be my 16th year as an educator. I’ve worked in multiple school districts, but always have considered Jefferson Parish my home. I’ve served Jefferson Parish Schools as a teacher, ESL Coach, Master Teacher, and Assistant Principal. I’m a native of Westwego and Lafitte and a proud graduate of Fisher High School. I firmly believe that each day, we have the opportunity to help children discover their strengths, build meaningful relationships, and develop a lifelong love of learning.

At our school, we believe every child is unique, capable, and deserving of a safe, nurturing environment where they can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Our dedicated teachers and staff work hard to create engaging learning experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity, confidence, and kindness.

We know that a child's success is strengthened when schools and families work together. Your partnership is essential, and we value the support, encouragement, and involvement that families bring to our school community. Whether you are communicating with teachers, attending school events, or supporting learning at home, your involvement helps make our school a special place for children to grow and succeed.
